Based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux, which has been adapted into countless films, The Phantom of the Opera follows a deformed composer who haunts the grand Paris Opera House. Sheltered from the outside world in an underground cavern, the lonely, romantic man tutors and composes operas for Christine, a gorgeous young soprano star-to-be. As Christine’s star rises and a handsome suitor from her past enters the picture, the Phantom grows mad, terrorizing the opera house owners and company with his murderous ways. Still, Christine finds herself drawn to the mystery man. The Phantom of the Opera is the winner of seven 1988 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and now the longest-running show in Broadway history. Coupled with such fantastic emotive on-stage drama and an array of talented creators, Phantom of the Opera Musical has proved a runaway success with countless audiences. Set around an Opera the show inevitably displays grand costumes and theatrical stage pieces befitting such an arena. With Andrew Lloyd Webber at the forefront, audiences can expect the resulting music to be rich and technically competent while in tune with the dramatic scenes on stage. Like most of the productions, the detail makes the orchestra and stage design so aesthetically pleasing. Each performance sees 230 individual costumes expertly complemented by grand set pieces. 2,230 meters of specially dyed fabric make elaborate set piece drapes. The stage boasts a particularly impressive replica of the Paris Opera House complete with a dazzling chandelier that oozes opulence and dwarfs the actors.

Do you want to see the show which is a very good buy for families looking for the quintessential Broadway experience? The scenery is lavish, the lush orchestral score has a real "Broadway" feel to it, and even after all of the worldwide productions, tours, and the recent film, the original is still a great introduction to what the world of Broadway is all about. However, Grand opera and lush romance might not be cup of tea for kids. And the Phantom is a frightening guy. There are old-fashioned scare moments throughout—a dead corpse plunging from a noose, shrieking-for-their-lives ballerinas, that disfigured face... Such sights will either send your kid burying their face in your arm or thinking it’s the coolest show in town.

May be appropriate for children 4 and older. Children under 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

The Sets, the costumes, and all that are great, but the truly amazing part is the music. The power and yet, grace and beauty behind it is overpowering. I will admit it can be borring at first but once the phantom comes in, it becomes spectacular, amazing, and Phantastic!!!
