Directed by Julie Taymor who did the ‘Lion King’ which is AMAZING, with music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge, the musical with a reported cost of $50 million — the largest in Broadway history — draws on 40 years of Marvel comic books, “Spider Man”!
Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark spins a new take on the mythic tale of a young man propelled from a modest townhouse in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building, the bustling offices of the Daily Bugle, through the dizzying canyons of Manhattan, to new vistas never before seen. The play will star Broadway performers Reeve Carney as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Tony Award Nominate Jennifer Damiano, and Patrick Page. In the works for six years and costing up to $50 million, according to MTV, it is one of the most costly theatrical productions.

Everyone says, “it’s really coming’! Spider Man” has been in trouble forever. Their budget was up to $52 million and that it would take five years to recoup investments if the show sold out every night and the entire audience bought T -shirts. Who knows? The beauty of “Spider Man” succeeding is that would put the naysayer in their places forever. Between the musical, the upcoming movie, and the ongoing “Spider-Man” comic books, one has to wonder if we are approaching spectacular Spider-Man overkill. We’ll soon find out.
